From a stroll through #kennethhahnpark this week.

Not a superbloom! Aesthetics aside, the flowers shown here are invasive plants. The yellow is mustard, the white is fennel. Once established, these plants crowd out native plants, especially seedlings, resulting in entire hillsides covered by them. By summer, after producing thousands of seeds, they die off leaving a lifeless landscape. Besides crowding out natives, these plants provide little nutrition to the native fauna that need native plants to feed on.
